EMDR Consultation

EMDR consultation at MindRidge Centre for Mental Health is designed to support clinicians in developing confidence, clinical depth, and integrity in their EMDR practice.

Led by Shazia Almas, PhD, RP, EMDRIA Certified EMDR Clinician and EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training (CIT), consultation spaces are grounded in thoughtful, structured, and collaborative learning.

These consultations are suitable for:

  • EMDR-trained clinicians working toward EMDRIA Certification
  • Therapists seeking to deepen their understanding of complex trauma and dissociation
  • Clinicians looking for case consultation and clinical refinement
  • Mental health professionals pursuing EMDR basic training

Group Consultation

Format: Small, structured consultation groups
Focus: Case discussion, EMDR application, and clinical integration

Key Features:

  • Limited group size to allow meaningful participation
  • Opportunity to present cases and receive feedback
  • Focus on complex trauma, dissociation, and clinical decision-making
  • Integration of EMDR with broader therapeutic frameworks

Sample Structure:

  • Frequency: Biweekly or Monthly
  • Duration: 2 hours per session
  • Group Size: 4–6 clinicians

Group consultation offers a collaborative learning environment where clinicians can reflect, refine, and grow alongside peers.

Individual Consultation

Format: One-to-one individual consultation 
Focus: Individual consultation provides a more tailored space for clinicians seeking focused support.

Suitable for:

  • EMDRIA Certification consultation hours
  • Complex case consultation
  • Skill development and protocol refinement
  • Building confidence in EMDR practice

Format:

  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Frequency: Flexible based on clinician needs

This format allows for deeper exploration of cases, clinical challenges, and professional development goals.

Areas of Focus

Consultation may include:

  • Case conceptualization using the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model
  • Readiness assessment and stabilization
  • Working with complex trauma and dissociation
  • Managing blocked processing and clinical challenges
  • Cognitive interweaving and clinical decision-making
  • Integrating EMDR with other modalities
  • Therapist presence and attunement

Consultation Hours & EMDRIA Requirements

Consultation provided at MindRidge is approved to be applied toward EMDRIA Certification requirements, in accordance with current EMDRIA guidelines.

EMDRIA requires a total of 20 consultation hours for certification, including 10 hours of individual consultation and 10 hours of group consultation.

  • Both individual and group consultation hours can be counted toward this requirement
  • Group consultation hours are typically counted at a reduced ratio, as outlined by EMDRIA
  • Clinicians are responsible for ensuring their consultation hours align with current EMDRIA standards

As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training (CIT), up to 15 of the required 20 consultation hours can be completed through CIT-provided consultation, in accordance with EMDRIA guidelines.
