EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Evidence-Based Trauma Therapy
At MindRidge, we offer EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to support individuals in processing traumatic, distressing, or overwhelming life experiences. EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess memories so they become less emotionally charged and no longer interfere with daily life.
EMDR does not require detailed verbal retelling of traumatic events and is often effective when traditional talk therapy has felt limited or overwhelming.
Therapy can help you better understand anxiety, reduce its intensity, and develop tools to feel calmer, more grounded, and more in control of your life.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR Therapy is a psychotherapy approach that helps individuals process unprocessed or “stuck” memories that continue to cause emotional distress. These memories may stem from:
- Single-incident trauma (accidents, assaults, medical trauma)
- Distressing life events that still feel present
- Emotional abuse, betrayal, or relational trauma
- Chronic or developmental trauma
- Childhood neglect or attachment wounds
During EMDR sessions, bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, taps, or tones) is used while focusing on aspects of a memory. This allows the brain to reprocess the experience in a more adaptive way, reducing emotional intensity and negative beliefs associated with it
What Can EMDR Help With?
EMDR Therapy may be effective for individuals experiencing:
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Anxiety and panic symptoms
- Depression linked to past experiences
- Emotional dysregulation
- Negative core beliefs (e.g., “I’m not safe,” “I’m not good enough”)
- Grief and complicated loss
- Performance blocks and high-achievement pressure
- Distressing memories that feel intrusive or unresolved
EMDR can also be helpful for clients who feel “stuck” despite insight or previous therapy work
